The CATEGORY Manifesto
Every CATEGORY theme gives you permission.
Permission
- To express yourself in a new way.
- To meet new people.
- To feel more confident.
- To discover yourself.
- To be someone new.
Every theme, every lineup, every room centers around you.
Our themes aren't a dress code. They're an invitation. How you interpret them is up to you.
What we stand for
Representation isn't a talking point, it's our booking policy. Every CATEGORY lineup is 100% femme, BIPOC, gender expansive, and/or queer-identifying.
All are welcome, no matter what CATEGORY you fall into.
Operating at the highest caliber, from our safety practices to our ticketing process, staff, security, lighting, sound, and production standards.
We listen to our community, always.
What you stand for
Loud or quiet, polished or raw, questioning or certain. Every theme is a blank slate for you to reinvent yourself.
CATEGORY is a queer safe space, and a refuge for everyone in it. See something, say something. Harm reduction personnel are onsite. Ask a CATEGORY staff member in a blue wristband if you need help.
We all contribute to the culture in our own ways. Leave your negative opinions about others (and yourself) at home.
Chit-chat encouraged (but please take it off the dance floor).
Protect the dancefloor
Strict zero-tolerance policy for racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, ableism, ageism, or discrimination of any kind.
Consent is mandatory. No means no. Take your chit-chat and smoking outside.
Hydrate. Look out for each other. Give each other space.
We believe
The best rooms are built on one thing: belonging.
Perfection comes in every shape, size, and CATEGORY.
Nightlife should feel like freedom, not a filter.
All are welcome at a CATEGORY event. Unless you're standing in the way of someone else being exactly who they are.
Parties are better with your chosen ones. Bring your crush, bring your questioning friend, bring your best Judy.
